Tanga Region Climate

Includes Tanga City and Pangani. Characterized by hot, humid, and oppressive weather year-round. Temperatures range from a high of 32°C (90°F) in the hot months (December to March) to a low of 20°C (68°F) in the cooler months (May to October). It experiences two main rainy seasons: the heavy rains (Masika) from April to May, and the lighter rains (Vuli) around November, with annual rainfall averaging 1,100 to 1,400 mm

Coastal Zone (Tropical Savanna - Aw)

Found on the Handeni plateau. This area is significantly drier, getting only about 600 mm of annual rainfall, and experiences higher daily temperature variations due to the lack of cooling ocean breezes

Inland Plains & Western Tanga (Semi-Arid - BSh)

Located in the Usambara Mountains. Because of the high elevation, these areas have a much cooler, temperate climate. Daytime temperatures are mild, and nights can be quite cold. Rainfall is much higher here, sometimes reaching up to 2,000 mm per year

Highland & Mountain Zone (Temperate - Cwb/Cwa)

Tropical Savanna (Aw) along the coast, to Subtropical Steppe/Semi-Arid (BSh) inland, and Humid Subtropical/Temperate in the mountainous zones
